Going through a divorce is never easy, but there are things an individual can do or not do to ease the pain of terminating a marriage.  We have been exclusively practicing family law for the past 20 years and the two biggest mistakes we have seen clients make are not keeping a calendar and failing to keep records and receipts.

Cincinnati, Clermont and Warren County Domestic Relations Courts have specific rules that all parties going through a divorce or dissolution must follow.  Please note that following these rules is critical to your case. Under the Client Services tab on our website we have provided links for direct access to the rules, and the mandatory disclosure orders of the Courts. Gathering the required documents prior to your divorce will greatly speed up the process.

If you are living separate and apart from your spouse, keeping a calendar of daily activities and events is one of the easiest things a client can do to improve the chances of obtaining their goals.  This calendar should track items such as:  when you have the children, activities attended, individuals in attendance, items purchased for the household or children, bills paid, and any other relevant information.

In addition to keeping a calendar, keeping receipts for all expense will not only help organize your case, but will provide the Court with proof of payment. A client should keep receipts for all expenses for the family, including food, clothing, educational, etc. On monthly bank statements a client should make notations with regard to where all deposits originated, as well as noting reasons for withdrawals.
